Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Pop punkers Green Day have reported that its begun recording demos in Europe for its follow-up to last year’s 21st Century Breakdown. While the last album just came out in May 2009, the band has noted that it wants to release this album quicker than the last. Front man Billie Joe Armstrong told Kerrang! magazine [...]

Lollapalooza Lineup Announced: Soundgarden, Green Day and Lady Gaga Headlining

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Okay, Lollapalooza, we get it. You’re not messing around this year.
It’s comforting to know that in an age where the music industry is changing so quickly, and on so many levels, that not even the most integral players can seem to keep up with the tides and trends, some things remain constant: 17-year-old girls [...]

Pump Up The Volume: Ten Songs For Anyone’s Playlist

Not only can music bring people from different backgrounds together, but those from different generations as well…the best way to come together may be over music.

Foo Fighters & Nevermind Producer Butch Vig to Record New Album

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

I was two drinks into the night recently when the subject of Dave Grohl came up between me and a dear friend. The topic was actually “people who would be better than Meg White to work with Jack on the new White Stripes album”. Not that she isn’t a total little treat, she’s just been [...]

The Unyielding Power of U2’s Joshua Tree

Friday, March 19th, 2010

For over 20 years, singles including “Where the Streets Have No Name”, “With or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” have remained radio mainstays. March 9th, 1987 saw the beginning of a magnetic love affair between a band and the rest of the world that still shows no signs of slowing. If anything, it’s this album (not that U2 didn’t have any other work of merit) that has likely kept U2 in the spotlight for the proceeding 20+ years since its release. In theory, had they continued on with the trend set by The Unforgettable Fire, they might’ve slid off the pop culture radar at some point. Instead, they shifted modes, focused on crafting 50 powerful minutes of driving, tension-and-release, writing-heavy, music and ended up mainlining themselves into the affections of everyone while securing their position as major contributors to modern rock music.

Sunny Day Real Estate to Record New Album

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Billboard has reported that recently reunited Sunny Day Real Estate (SDRE) is set to record its first new material in 15 years with the original, touring lineup that consisted of Jeremy Enigk, Dan Hoerner, William Goldsmith and Nate Mendel. Throughout the tour a new song was played, which I happened to catch at a show in Portland last fall, and Jeremy had said on stage there was a possibility of recording in the future. Well it looks like they had been writing and planning such an album all along.

Us and Them: Exploring The Greatness That Is Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon

Monday, March 15th, 2010

After five albums of genre and mind bending exploration, Pink Floyd found themselves in the studio once again to complete what would soon be Dark Side of the Moon. The material from the album had actually been written and the concept developed before the recording took place, but the impact wouldn’t be truly felt until [...]

Nirvana’s Nevermind: The Beginning of The End

Friday, March 5th, 2010

September 24, 1991 was a day that most couldn’t pinpoint unless they looked online, but it would change the entire music industry for seemingly the last time because never again would a band have such a defining impact on the whole world. It was the day the Nirvana released “Nevermind”, and while the majority of [...]

The Who’s Roger Daltrey Wants to Sing the Blues with Jimmy Page

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

File this under “Things That Will Likely Never, Ever Happen but Would Be Kinda Awesome If They Did”: Roger Daltrey and Jimmy Page doing a blues album together. Maybe I’m being too negative. Maybe it will happen. It will if Roger Daltrey has his way about it; the front man for The Who has put [...]

Stuff We Like: Wayne Coyne’s Bathroom

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

You know how some celebrities are so far beyond the normal box that thinking about them doing everyday things in everyday environments seems kinda wrong? Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne has always been like that for me. Like, imagining him waking up in a normal house and walking down his normal hall and taking a normal [...]
