Seminal rock band Guided By Voices will get the tribute treatment sometime next year by many of the top indie acts out there today. While the album has not been titled yet, the line-up of artists has already begun to assemble.
No More Fake Labels founder Misty Dawn Briggs told Independent Weekly that other artists included in the upcoming release are Blitzen Trapper covering “Hot Freaks,” Cymbals Eat Guitars doing “Gleemer,” and Thurston Moore’s cover of “Stabbing a Star,” which was recorded with Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley under the moniker Male Slut and appeared on the 1998 GBV tribute album Blatant Doom Trip. Also, Elf Power, Superdrag, Kelley Deal with Buffalo Killers, of Montreal’s James Husband, and La Sera (a.k.a. Vivian Girls bassist Katy Goodman) will all contribute.
The article closes with a great quote from Kelley Deal, noting why she contributed to this album: “The project felt like it was motivated by love and respect for GBV and that's all. And that's enough."
