Lollapalooza Lineup Announced: Soundgarden, Green Day and Lady Gaga Headlining

Okay, Lollapalooza, we get it. You’re not messing around this year. It’s comforting to know that in an age where the music industry is changing so quickly, and on so many levels, that not even the most integral players can seem to keep up with the tides and trends, some things remain constant: 17-year-old girls and their doting boyfriends will wait for hours outside Third Eye Blind’s bus after a show (I swear to you, I saw it happen last week. Who knew they still got that?), un-talented hot chicks will always make more money and garner more fame than your favorite local band, and music festivals will always be a beloved summer tradition. These are the things we know. Of these summer super-shows, Perry Farrell’s Lollapalooza is always a hot ticket. And the release of the line-up is general a game of “anybody’s guess”…even more so this year, with a long string of rumors and delays. Well, the list of performers for 2010 is finally circulating – and not disappointing many people. The excitingly eclectic list for the festival, slated to take place August 6-8 at Chicago’s Grant Park, boasts big names like Lady Gaga (where isn’t this chick playing this year?), Green Day, MGMT, the Strokes, Green Day, the Black Keys, Spoon and Soundgarden. Seriously, Soundgarden is playing. The pillars of the 90s Seattle grunge scene haven’t played a show together since 1997 – and the generally popular opinion was that they never would again. Even festival organizer Perry Farrell wasn’t sure it was going to happen: “They were ready then they weren’t ready, then they didn’t know what they were going to do and then they were going to go out with another group to tour. So we were really kind of on edge to secure them and it came down to the wire.” After all the back and forth, it looks like the reuniting rockers are a “go”…at least for now. While many fans might be super stoked to see the Superunknown superstars sharing a stage for the first time in 13 years, Farrell is patting himself on the back for scoring the Lady Gaga appearance. The former Jane’s Addiction front man tells Rolling Stone, “Lady Gaga represents to me the music industry today. She’s a good representation of where it’s at and where everybody’s trying to get to. If you look at the Grammys, it looked like everybody was trying to catch up to Lady Gaga. We just see the vision of Lady Gaga in Chicago in Grant Park surrounded by all those beautiful buildings — we all just thought that it would be an epic performance.”

The full line-up is as follows:
