Music Radar Compiles Top 10 John Lennon Songs

As Oct 9th was the 70th anniversary of John Lennon’s birth, Music Radar put together a list of the top 10 Lennon penned songs. They range from his solo career all the way to his days with The Beatles. You can check out the whole list and listen to each song to remind you which was which. The list was voted on by Music Radar’s Facebook and Twitter users, and each song features a small write-up on how it was influential. The songs range from “And Your Bird Can Sing” to “Imagine,” though I think most people will be surprised at the top song. “Happiness Is a Warm Gun” - which happens to be my personal favorite - tops the list. This was a song I didn’t really get into until about three years ago when I happened to be sitting in a music studio in New York City listening to the mixes of the soundtrack for the recent Beatles-inspired nonsensical movie, Across the Universe. While the silly scene set to this song was of no significance in my mind, for some reason the song’s message and lyrics finally clicked for me and I realized the overall genius of it. If not only for the insane time signature changes (from 4/4 to 7/4 and everything in between) then for the masterful delivery, this song is so unique it truly stands the test of time. Let us know your favorite Lennon song in the comments!
